David A. Braun

With more than 35 years of real estate experience, David Braun is a licensed broker and holds a certified general appraisal license. In addition to these licenses, David has also earned the SRA, MAI, and AI-GRS designations from the Appraisal Institute. These highly respected designations for the real estate appraisal industry include recognition for the following areas:

  • SRA is for competency in valuing residential properties
  • MAI addresses the valuation of commercial properties
  • AI-GRS denotes expertise in reviewing commercial appraisals

David earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a major in Corporate Finance, from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

David was the founder and manager of a large real estate appraisal office that included a small brokerage presence for more than 30 years, while being actively engaged in real estate appraising since 1976 and the sale of real estate since 1983.  David served two terms as president of the local Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, as well as serving on numerous committees for the local Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.

David is a two-time recipient of the Roscoe Jackson Award, which is presented for “strong character and leadership,” while also being a two-time winner of the William S. Latimore, Jr. Award, which is presented for “a significant or unique contribution to the Chapter through active participation in its activities, and who in his or her career has made an outstanding contribution to the realization of goals of the Chapter.“

David is an Appraisal Institute Approved Instructor and an AQB certified USPAP Instructor for the Appraisal Foundation.  He has developed a number of valuation seminars on topics including scope of work, regression analysis, and valuation concepts, while making multiple presentations to the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council in Washington D.C., the Association of Appraiser Regulatory Officials (AARO), and presented White Papers to valuation experts.

David is also the author or two books, “Appraising in the New Millennium: Due Diligence & Scope of Work,” and “The Valuation Analyst: Research in Extracting Adjustment Rates.” He has also published articles on a variety of appraisal subjects in the Real Estate Valuation Magazine, The Working RE Magazine, The Live Valuation Magazine, and the Appraisal Journal.

David currently lives in Maryville, Tennessee with his wife, he is the father of three grown children and two grandchildren. As the managing sales broker at Shanks and Associates, David is committed to using his experience, skill and energy to provide customers with a successful experience when finding or selling residential or commercial real estate property in Blount County and throughout East Tennessee.
